Goodwood: A Brief History on Company and Culture
Goodwood was founded in the mid nineties by Joost van der Post
In the mid-nineties, Goodwood Interiors emerged as a new player in the industry for high-end teak furniture in Indonesia, thanks to the vision of its founder, Joost van der Post. The story of how this furniture empire came to be is nothing short of remarkable. It all began when Joost overheard a conversation about the potential for furniture opportunities in the east while on an airplane. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he flew over to Jepara and set out to build his business from scratch.
With nothing but a camera and a fax machine at his disposal, Joost embarked on his journey to capture the beauty of teak furniture. During the day, he scoured the roadsides, capturing pictures of exquisite furniture that caught his eye. In the evenings, he diligently faxed these images to potential clients around the world, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of the furniture that Indonesia had to offer. Goodwood then quickly went on to build the first factory.
Over the years, Goodwood has undergone remarkable expansion, transitioning from its modest beginnings to becoming a highly sought-after manufacturer and exporter with a strong foothold in the global market. With an eye towards continued growth and expansion, Goodwood remains dedicated to maintaining its position as a competitive player in the international furniture market.
"As a shipwright I had worked with Teak wood for many years myself so I immediately recognized the exceptional skills of the carpenters in Jepara. I made it my goal to fuse western management with eastern craftsmanship. That is what Goodwood is all about.
